Hampshire indie-pop/rock trio Blaenavon have built themselves quite a fan base through the steady release of EPs, which have bagged them support slots with the likes of Foals, Sundara Karma and DIIV. This, on top of a busy summer festival run at Truck, Glastonbury and Reading & Leeds (to name a few!) has made them one of the hottest new bands around.
‘My Bark Is Your Bite’ accompanies the band’s latest EP, which includes the moody ‘Let’s Pray’ and the frantic ‘I Will Be The World’.‘ My Bark Is Your Bite’ fuses needle-like guitar, which jangles over swirling synths and thumping percussion to create a dreamy and winding song, with an ominous edge. Ben Gregory’s haunting vocals only add to this as they swim over the piercing riff. This is something that sticks with me about Blaenavon, how they bring a darkened take on the indie-rock genre to create something really unique.
After following the boys for a while now, I can’t wait to see what they have in store for their debut LP. If this is a sign of things to come, then count me in! ‘My Bark Is Your Bite’ comes just after the band have announced their first dates in the USA, where Hazel English and Pretty Sick will play as support. Blaenavon will also play a HUGE headline show at London Scala on October 14th.
