Circa Waves are telling you to ‘Wake Up’ with their brand new lead single, plus we’ve got the lowdown on LP2

Liverpool four-piece Circa Waves burst onto our radar’s in 2015 with their dance-worthy debut album, ‘Young Chasers’, which fused shimmering and driven guitar-pop with a generous serving of The Strokes, The Wombats and Two Door, what wasn’t to like! Favoured by BBC Radio 1, hits like ‘T-Shirt Weather’, ‘Fossils’ and ‘Stuck In My Teeth’ became instant summer anthems, not just because of their generous airtime, but due to their relatable and youthful themes  of chasing girls and lazing the days away in the sunshine. The Merseyside boys, led by charismatic frontman Kieran Shudall built up quite a buzz, embarking on a successful 2015 festival run at Glastonbury, Reading & Leeds and Boardmasters, as well as a MASSIVE autumn tour, including a sellout date at O2 Academy Brixton.

After going underground for a good few months, Circa Waves are back with a killer new track which debuted as Annie Mac’s ‘Hottest Record In The World’ yesterday, as well as details of their anticipated sophomore album ‘Different Creatures’. ‘Wake Up’ is far beefier and bolder than anything Circa Waves have done before, leading the charge with an electrifying guitar tremolo that expands into growling lo-fi riffage and a chugging bassline, a world away from the bright surf-rock of their debut. Oh, and it’s got a chorus to die for. Speaking about the song in an interview with Annie Mac last night, Kieran explained “’Wake Up’ is a big and bold way to start. It shows we’re not messing around anymore,”. He was certainly right!

Just minutes after dropping their single, the band announced their long-awaited second album, ‘Different Creatures’ which is out on 10th March 2017, and is produced by desk-wizard Alan Moulder who has also worked with The Killers, Arctic Monkeys and Smashing Pumpkins. Is Moulder’s production influence behind this heavier sound? Speaking about the success of ‘Young Chasers’, the frontman said “I really started to believe in myself… I feel like I’ve got a fire in my belly with this record”, ‘Different Creatures’ is ‘Young Chasers’ “grittier, nighttime counterpart”. I think we’re in for a treat here. Shortly after, Circa Waves played an intimate comeback show at London’s Omeara, with huge support from Cardiff punk-rockers Estrons and King Nun.
