Last week the Welsh rockers released new single ‘Blister’. The vigorous track is typical of the sound the band has already created in earlier EP ‘Cave Song’ this year.
It barely takes one play of the track to realise it will be in its element on the live stage. The raucous drum beat is matched with roar from the electrifying guitar throughout, a combined sound assured to cause venues to explode into life. This is another track on an already high tempo set list that would rival the energy exerted by American counterparts VANT or punk duo Slaves, no easy task.
Although the track doesn’t show any change in the direction the band are taking their sound, it does highlight the growing confidence of the teens who have had a monumental year and are really believing in the material they create. The track is fully focused on creating a colossal live sound already highlighted whilst playing the festival circuit last summer and when playing stadiums whilst supporting Stereophonics earlier this year.
Whilst breaking into the rock genre in the UK is proving a challenge for any bands at this point in time, Pretty Vicious are showing they have what it takes to go all the way. Blister portrays fight, hunger and most importantly a growing swagger that any band needs to thrive in the industry. With an imminent album on the way, 2017 has all the makings of the breakthrough year for Merthyr lads Pretty Vicious.
