Listen to ‘CAKE’ the new single by FREAK now

Straight outta Chelmsford comes this angry young man who attended the same school as Rat Boy and left the Co-op to stick it to the man and the machine.

19 year old Connar Ridd aka FREAK makes bleepified, poppy, grunge and Arctic Monkeys influenced bangers. He supported Sundara Karma on their biggest UK tour to date last year and is on the road to making 2017 his bitch.

Friday the 13th has proved to be a great day this January, with the release of the new albums from The XX, Wiley and Code Orange, as well as a Blaenavon tour announcement and a new song from Lewis Watson’s upcoming album. (keep your eyes peeled for reviews of the previously mentioned) WHAT A DAY!

One of the many peaks of today’s amazing new music is the brand new track from FREAK, the rip-roaring newcomer from Essex. The song seems to be fueled with aggravation at society (‘You can have your cake and eat it!) screams Connar accompanied by gritty riffs and furious percussion. The track climaxes with an energetic solo and glitchy hip hop synths likewise to that of Rat Boy’s early material. I can’t stop playing this song, i’m sure it will be ringing through my mind for days, also be sure to catch FREAK live at any opportunity, he is an energetic performer who incites mosh pits all over the shop.

FREAK plays Phil Taggarts Slacker Sounds 2017 at London Kamio at the end of the month, headlined by Brighton’s Black Honey and Manchester’s Cabbage. The show is sold out. FREAK will also be supporting INHEAVEN on their headline UK tour.

The track has a similar vibe to last year’s ‘Nowhere’, hopefully the consistent release of absolute tunes are leading up to an album. If you weren’t already excited about FREAK, you should be! Big things are coming for sure.

Check out the song and its official video below:

Also be sure to take a gander over to FREAK’s SoundCloud page to hear his previous releases, be sure to listen to the ‘What Happened EP‘:
