Alternative band Indigo Husk discuss their plans for 2017

The Great Escape is a music festival based in the center of Brighton. This festival puts on music from emerging bands including genres that range between indie, rock, alternative electronic and more. The festival will be kicking off on Friday 18th May- 20th.

The UK based festival has a current lineup of some rather critically acclaimed artists such as the British songwriter, Rag N Bone Man, who recently released ‘Human’ in the summer of 2016. The track reached number two on the UK singles chart this December, alongside the likes of pop punk girl band Goat Girl.

I recently contacted rock band Indigo Husk, who are set to perform at this year’s Great Escape festival. Indigo Husk are an emerging grunge band based in London and are on the lookout to “channel the energy of pop punk and the lo-fi sound and high volume of garage rock’ as described by the boys themselves via their Facebook biography.

It’s hard to describe the atmosphere of the interview, of what really appeared to be the pink and white layout of my Hotmail screen. “This will be the first festival performance we’ve done. We are really looking forward to getting down there and playing some tunes.” Says Joe Hamm.

“We love playing live and it’s a great festival to be a part of.” The Great Escape helps bring out bands who are looking to get noticed into the music industry and has been a great success for some artists in the past. In 2015, the indie rock group, Black Honey had a spot on their lineup, followed by one of the most influential UK grime artists Stormzy.

I asked: Are there any other festivals that you’re playing this year

“There’s one that hasn’t been announced yet but hopefully we will be playing as much as possible. I think every band dreams of playing Glastonbury but Joe and I have been going to End of The Road for a few years and love it so would be very sick to play there.” Says Joe in response to my previous question. It’s great to know that the boys are kicking off summer 2017 with a slot at The Great Escape festival this year.

If you haven’t already, go check out their most recently published EP Itchy on their Spotify. You just can’t say no to the melodic sounds of ‘Mockinbird.’

Also don’t forget to check out last year’s track ‘Misbehave,’ it is the ultimate summer banger. Should make you feel a lot more excited for summer of 2017.
