Swedish duo, and sisters First Aid Kit have released their first new music in 2 years since their ‘America’ EP. The band are believed to be recording a new album or EP. They revelled they recorded a new song back in December at Jack Whites ‘Third Man Recording Studio’, stating “it sounds really old”
“You are the Problem Here” is a furious anti-rape anthem. The dark lyrics, and much heavier sound mix together to create an angry statement of sound. Some fans may not even recognise sisters Klara and Johanna Söderberg in the fury and anger that they share. “I hope you fucking suffer” and “you are the problem here” are lyrics filled with anger. Yet First Aid Kit still imply those melodic vocals even when they are filled with disgust and anger.
The song was released for International Womans Day and the duo wrote the song after discovering “yet another rape case where the perpetrator was handed a sentence which did not at all reflect the severity of his crime.” In a statement First Aid Kit said…
““You Are the Problem Here” isn’t a typical First Aid Kit-song. It’s angry and direct. It’s a song written out of despair. After reading about yet another rape case where the perpetrator was handed a sentence which did not at all reflect the severity of his crime we felt upset and vengeful. We were, and are, sick of living in a society where the victims of rape are often blamed for the horrible thing that has been done to them. Our message is clear and should not be controversial in the least: if you rape, you are the problem. Alcohol is not the problem. So called “youth culture” is not the problem. You are. And you always have a choice.”
All proceeds the band make from the single, will go directly towards Women For Women International.
