Franz Ferdinand Return With ‘Always Ascending’.

We all remember the highly catchy, euphoric riff of ‘Take Me Out’, it’s a track that’s stuck around for over 13 years and will no doubt soundtrack many more drunken indie club nights. The Scottish legends, Franz Ferdinand are back with the announcement of their new single and album!

Entitled ‘Always Ascending’ the band are set to release their sixth full length album on the 9th of February 2018. The 10 tracks are stated to display nothing short of a rebirth for the band who underwent a fresh recast of line-up only a few months ago, Franz are said to be back and better than ever. Recorded in RAK Studios, London and Motor bass, Paris with the help and guidance of Philippe Zadar, the album is a landmark position for the band, marking a brand new chapter in their journey and lifetime.

It’s undeniable to hear the band’s development sonically, they’ve broadened their palates and created a sound lead singer Alex Kapranos refers to as “simultaneously futuristic and naturalistic”. Title track ‘Always Ascending’ certainly displays this shift in their style. and creates a brooding, futuristic sound within it’s intro.

The inro is brooding with evident “futuristic” elements in the form of guitar lines and synths. Kapranos creates an ominous, dark, wintry vibe within his vocals, thus amplifying the heavy, gloomy mood set during the intro. The melody slowly undercuts it as it turns upbeat and joyful, the chorus is cheerful and bouncy, it feels familiar for the band whilst also presenting an expansion and evolution within their iconic sound.
