19-year old Boston artist, Clairo has easily been one of the fastest rising new artists of the last year. Her viral hit ‘Pretty Girl‘ and it’s completely DIY, webcam-shot video now sits at a staggering 11 million views. Her brand new, and first official music video, for ‘Flaming Hot Cheetos‘ perfectly encapsulates her ascent to fame with it’s big budget production values and beautiful cinematography. The track is set to feature on her debut, six-track EP that is scheduled for release later in the year.
Directed by Matthew Dillon-Cohen (known for his music videos for Joji, Gus Dapperton and Rich Brian), the clip sees Clairo joined by the likes of Cuco and various members of Inner Wave partying in a diner as well as a dancing parade of people in Cheetos costumes.

The video has been subject to some criticism, with fans saying it draws no correlation to the song itself – which is an ethereal, lo-fi whirlwind. I, personally, don’t see the issue with the video. It’s elegant yet at the same time it’s fun (as is the song), the colours within are really clean and fresh and the cinematography as a whole is unreal. Her soothing vocals chime out an ode to a former flame as she simmers and sways her way through the diner, backlit by an array of neon lights.
With a support slot for Tyler, The Creator already under her belt, the bedroom pop starlet is only just getting started with this eccentric new video. Exceptionally easy on the eye and enjoyable, this video has been on repeat since it came out on Monday and all of us at Let It Happen are ecstatic to see what’s next for Clairo.
