Yves started their first headline tour in downstairs Clwb Ifor Bach with support from Swansea’s Bandicoot and shoegaze outfit Big Thing.
Bandicoot favourite came in the form of ‘Everything I Need’, where the sax and vocals combined made elements bordering the lines of Simple Minds circa ‘82. Balancing the books, Big Thing bro brought their dreamy style of indie-pop to the crowd.
Yves released a series of singles last year, for a trio making their capital debut, the already established fanbase was an impressive spectacle. The three individually have been playing the Swindon circuit for years before Yves was born in 2016, and since have been excelling with their traditional base of guitar paired with anthemic choruses.
With tracks ‘You Wanna Know’ and ‘When The Day Comes’, their melodies are polished with gritty overlay from lead Harry Roke’s vocals.
Yves’ fierce rhythm section consisting of Mitchell Dodson and Finn Wilkinson propels their material with frantic energy. Their synergy was electric throughout, yet it was evident the outfit were humbled by the reaction in Cardiff.
Ending the evening with the crowd begging them for an encore, Yves’ first gig of their tour shows enormous promise.
