Once again Father John Misty has proven just how incredibly talented he really is. After just over a year since the astonishing ‘Pure Comedy’ (which was voted Let It Happens album of the year for 2017), Josh Tillman has announced his fourth studio album.
‘God’s Favourite Customer’ will be released on June 1st via Sub-Pop/Bella Union and will feature 10 songs including the previous single ‘Mr Tillman’. Not only has Mr Tillman shared this information, but he has also released two brand new songs that will feature on his latest release.
“Disappointing Diamonds Are The Rarest Of Them All” and possibly one of Father Johns most emotion felt tracks “Just Dumb Enough To Try” was released onto Spotify and have given us a much clearer indication as to where this album will take us next.
“Disappointing Diamonds Are The Rarest Of Them All” features a similar music approach to Mr Tillman with the drum and acoustic guitar led music. Josh also aims high with his vocals, hitting high note after high note to create an emotional rollercoaster that makes you smile during every listen.
“Just Dumb Enough To Try” could well be on of his best singles. No, seriously. The 4-minute long track appears to be a love song. It is touching, heartbreaking, and features some impeccably brilliant production which brings the track to another level. “I’m just dumb enough to try, to keep you in my life, for a little while longer” shows the heartbreak that Misty has found trying to keep someone in his life. The crescendo of distorted wind instruments and melodic drum patterns, as well as Misty’s emotional and jaw-dropping vocals, create a unique and tear-jerking atmosphere that tugs at your heart strings, leaving you wanting more.
