Blossoms gig review – o2 academy Leeds – 7th May ★★★★

Bank holiday Monday – sun cream? Beer garden? Blossoms gig? Check, check and check! Blossoms are at the beginning of their ‘Cool like you’ tour and quite a tour it is going to be. Despite the Leeds o2 being as warm as the core of the earth, the boys brought the tunes and the style to the stage.

Opening with ‘There’s a reason why (I never returned your calls)’, the 2nd single off the new album, it’s fair to say that you could see from early on that this was going to be a good gig. The crowd was full of life with the smell of sun cream and sweat succumbed the O2 along with the voices of 2000+ people.

‘I can’t stand it’, the first single off Cool like you, was a standout song. The song itself is groovy and sounds amazing live; in fact, all the songs they sang sounded almost better live. Which no one would be complaining about!

The setlist was big. They included pretty much every song you wanted to hear.. even ‘You’re Gorgeous’ by Babybird and ‘Half the world away’ by Oasis. Quite fitting that Noel Gallagher himself was also playing in Leeds at the same time. I’m sure he could hear everyone in the o2 singing that song for him as much as they were for blossoms.

The lights were bright and colourful and there was full cups and smiles wherever you looked. ‘Honey sweet’, ‘Blow’ and (of course) ‘Charlemagne’ we’re the distinctive classics from the first album that got everyone dancing along with ‘Cool like you’, ‘Love talk’ and ‘There is a reason why (I never returned your calls)’ from the second album.

After a year or so break from touring to record the album, Blossoms both looked and still sounded the part…no surprise there. They retain the title coolest lads in Stockport. Along with the tour the lads are doing many UK festivals this year, some of these include; TRSMT festival, Neighbourhood Weekender and Tramlines festival.
