It’s something of a risk for an established unit to give up a name they’ve made for themselves. But that’s exactly what Essex indie trio FREAK have done after 2 years of success with tracks like “What Happened?” and “No Money”, a raucously energetic live act, and a nice line in merch to boot.

Led by singer Connar Ridd, they return as Sour with a debut single “Oh No”. Immediately the change makes sense as they’ve cast aside their indie rock sound in favour of funky pop in the mould of Swiss Lips “Danz” that is grounded in the upbeat rhythms of Jonn Downham’s bass and Sam Mumford’s drums.

They’ve kept their indie sensibility though, releasing music and running the show themselves. The move that hasn’t held them back giving their first live performance at MTV’s Gibraltar Calling along with the likes of Two Door Cinema Club.
