Single review: Hinds – ‘British Mind’

Sun-kissed Spanish quartet Hinds return with another helping of sugar and spice with their new single, ‘British Mind’.

Ana Perrote, guitarist and co-vocalist, explained, “Since we started touring the UK we realised more and more the “obsession” British people have with the sun. As we are Spanish we live every day under the sun, but you guys don’t, and we noticed a lot of metaphors in songs about it, always relating sun with happiness. We always wanted to write about it and the end of the summer seemed the perfect moment.” Hinds invite us to share their Mediterranean glow. The jagged guitar strums recall the unruly 60s rock’n’roll sound; as the rattling tambourines begin, it takes us right to the summer of love. Its unpolished quality makes ‘British Mind’ sound as if it’s being sang intimately around a campfire. It has a natural buoyancy with lyrics that melt in the mouth.

The new track arrives just in time for Hinds’ forthcoming UK tour that kicks off in Southsea on 12 November.
